a discussion forum

if you have not seen "million dollar baby", i will try not to ruin the plot for you because it was a really good movie. the oscar's got the best movie of the year right this time. it ties in to the big debates of america right now about terri sch(something), the pope, and the idea of what is living and what is all but dead.

what do you think is right or wrond in regards to euthanasia?

(i will talk more on the comments side because i feel i would do exactly what i don't want to do and ruin a good movie for most of you otherwise.)

lets discuss and remember principled tollerance.

if you are reading the comments and have not seen the movie sorry. i want to start the discussion.

what would you do if you were put in the situation of clint eastwood's character, franky? he presents every reason he can think of for her to continue a life aimed at something. but she has given up on life completely. do you wait and see if she can successfully end her life or do you do what she wants? i don't know what i would do. i would probably try to keep her around as long as possible, but is that torture? yet i know that if i were in the situation of the girl, i would want my life ended. no burden to anyone anylonger, and allowing the ones i love to grieve and move on.

euthanasia itself is a term, a catagory, that gives rise to lumping all these unique situations into one. to say that euthanasia in all cases is wrong, to me only seperates me from the unique situation of the people involve in a particular case. as in the case of terri, if the family, for the sole purpose of feeling their daughter is capable of contributing something to their lives, desires to sustain the daughter's life, then fine. however, my greatest fear in all of this is that it somehow get political. somehow, the goverenment and political policy could be established through this. in my opinion, the government has no right to ump all "euthanasia" cases into one supreme category and say that it is absolutely right or wrong.
